Matthew Willoughby
I'm looking for a trailer to transport my 7 to club speed events. Due to passing my test after 1st Jan '97 I am limited to a trailer with a gross capacity of 1300kg (i.e. less than the kerb weight of my tow car) so I suspect that means it will have to be single axle. A single axle Woodford, Brian James or similar would be ideal. ASBO orange 1.6 VX - now with ASBO-blog
Matthew Willoughby
Just a thought - I am keeping an eye on Pistonheads and eBay but is there anywhere else that I should be looking? ASBO orange 1.6 VX - now with ASBO-blog
Area Representative Richard Price Posted June 7, 2009 Area Representative Share Posted June 7, 2009 Matt, I'm fairly sure that the max gross weight for a Minno is very close to 1300Kg. From memory, my old Minno was 1380Kg, but my Minno sport is 1300Kg. (but I can't easily check without going to my lock up)
Matthew Willoughby
According to the Brian James website here a Minno Max has a gross capacity of 1600kg. I thought Minnos and other comparable twin axles had a gross capacity of 1400kg but I'd be happy to be proved wrong. FlymoFraser
Matt Beemer arrived then? Would it not be worth taking your trailer test? It would free up your shopping list. I have seen them on here too. Matthew Willoughby
It hasn't arrived just yet. I'm getting a bit ahead of myself actually as I don't get it until July 2nd. I could do the test but I'd rather not have the hassle. I'd be quite happy with a single axle if that's what it has got to be. It's just a case of finding one.... Mark Durrant
Matthew I would seriously consider taking your test as twin axle trailer is an easier and safer tow. The consequences of a puncture or losing a wheel (I have experienced both) on a single axle is not worth thinking about. I also suspect that there is little to save in terms of money as most trailers advertised are twin axle. Irrelevant
You can tow at 60mph as opposed to 50mph Where did you get that from Didn't realise speed was related to number of axles. Can I tow at 70 with a triple axle trailer then?
Mark Durrant
Epimetheus I have corrected my post after checking the facts . For some resason I thought single axle trailers were restricted to 50mph and may be they were in the past Mark D
david nelson
I think it is 50mph for unbraked.
Z3MCJez
Brian James do a Clubman that'll take a Caterham, with a double axle but a load weight of 1000kg. But passing your test really won't be too difficult. Do you really want your pride and joy on one set of those little wheels? And you don't say what you're going to use to tow it with, but if you're towing with something relatively small, then the extra stability of a twin axle will be really appreciated as you approach maximum legal towing speed 😬 Jez
Matthew Willoughby
I've bought this here this evening Brian James, twin axle, 1300kg gross capacity. Sorted. Just need the Beemer so I can tow it now..... Thanks for the advice everybody ASBO orange 1.6 VX - now with ASBO-blog
