CK
For a little promotional work I'm thinking of getting some graphics put on the Se7en - like a logo across the bonnet at a slight angle and some bits and pieces down the side & back. The question is: how easy is it to apply the graphics to the bonnet, cutting the louvre holes of course; and then taking the graphics off again to be used another day - or is this pure fantasy? 😬 Chris - Minds Alive Edited by - CK on 26 May 2009 13:09:
mav
Taking them off to be re-used is unlikely. They're normally a 1 time use item. Search the archives for details of how to fit / remove easily. I prefer the 'smear of polish then apply stickers to that' method, which also makes them easy to remove afterwards.
h_____
A lot of wax before fitting, and a heat gun to help get them off. Agree once use only.

Stationary M25 Traveller
Wet surface before applying - makes it much easier to slide into position, and allows you to squeegee air bubbles out. Works for any size sticker.
Jason Plato
iys quite possible that it will take the paint off on removal. There are numerous cars out there with paint peeling away from the base coat here is my Duratec R .... C7 TOP Taffia joint AO with Al
CK
Hmmm...nice 😬 Just wanted to use the car for some one-off promotional work initially, so unsure if it's going to be worth the hassle. Don't really want to be driving the car around with company graphics all of the time. Chris - Minds Alive
Grubbster
Wet the surface first with soapy water (little squirt of washing up liquid in the water) then put the sticker on, slide it about until it is where you want it, then remove airbubbles using a credit card. Job done. Not sure about removal though . . . . it shouldn't take the paint off but I wouldn't like you to take my word for that!
Normans_Ghost
Chris, if it's for repeated promo work why not get the logo or motif made up on magnetic backing rubber pads. We used to do this for the doors of the demo cars in the dealerships. Z3MCJez
If you use the wet application method, they'll come off fine for the next 24 hours. Just ask the people who put their race numbers on this way at Pembrey. No race numbers after a couple of runs ... Build Photos
CK
Thanks for all the suggestions - the magnetic backing thing is an interesting idea. The graphics only need to be on for 2 days, so think I'll try the soapy application first

CK
sheep, I'm getting them done at a local tuning shop here in Brussels - had a chat to the bloke yesterday, they do the small foil graphics there themselves, and one of their local contacts do the large colour vinyl stuff. CK
Graphics ordered, will let you know how I get along; could be an interesting experiment. Then again, I have some new front wings to fit, so if it all goes baps-skywards I can fix those fairly painlessly 😬 Chris - Minds Alive
J7HPC
Slight thread hijack (sorry) but does anyone recommend anybody for sticker printing in the UK for a small vinyl that I can have printed for about 10-15 cars and that won't peel paint off when they're removed a week or two later? Dazzled
Talk to Dan at Hollographics ( do a Google search ) - he may be rushed off his feet producing graphics for Le Mans but he's a top bloke and has produced stuff for quite a few people on here. Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted May 29, 2009 Area Representative Share Posted May 29, 2009 CK (and Rupert) Get the vinyls mounted onto a clear vinyl sheet. This can be made with a low tack for temporary mounting (I have used this technique for easy and fast removal from hotel mirrors and glass barriers for example). They roll on and peel of very easily. I don't know how they would stand up to air passing rapidly past but should be OK for a few applications if you protect the surfaces. I would go into a specialist sign outfit and ask. CK
Ta Went to pick the bits up on Friday, no applicator film. Tomorrow he says. Tomorrow is now today, no applicator film he says, no delivery on Friday. Monday is a public holiday, so no applicator film then, Tuesday at bloody onze heur he cheerfully offers. Git. Paul White
Rupert This probably goes against the Blatchat advertising code but a lot of people recommend me 😬 Maybe if I offered a donation to NtL I might get away with it? I found this thread quite entertaining what with magnetics for aluminium, peeling paint etc... We just print on to removable vinyl, easily removable up to 2 years - job done! Paul. Normans_Ghost
And whats wrong with magnets for ali. Just use some magnet underneath. Paul, I thought Chris wanted to use it over and over again rather than once and then remove it. But I may be mistaken.
