AP 4 pot caliper clearances

When fitting 13" 'superlite' lookalikes, which ones fit over the AP 4 pot calipers? If I'm not mistaken:

- UK Superlites need spacers

- KN Minators (as supplied by Caterham) are machined specially for a direct fit

- Panasports fit directly

Has anyone tried the 'superlites' by Performance Industries out of Australia - do these fit?

What are the offsets and other CRITICAL dimensions one needs to specify for 6" wheels (185x60 AO32Rs) at front and 7" wheels (205x60 AO32Rs) at rear when establishing whether 13" 'superlite' lookalikes will clear the AP calipers?

Thanks in advance for your response

Marc

K&N's do fit without spacers, £50 each plus VAT from George Polley (for a 6x13)

however I have a pair of Superlites which also just fit without spacers although if the weights were fitted in line they would not clear

sorry, don't know abouthte others

George Polley KN's just fit but you have to ensure that any wheel balance weights are not stuck on where they will directly pass the AP calipers because the clearance to the wheel is only about 3mm.

Tony,

I never did use my Superlites, bought them then sold them on. I have split rim jobbies now. I do know "robmar" had them with spacers. Try here for his e-mail address etc.

I reckoned that I would only need 3-4mm spacers.

Good luck

My K&N's clear with the weights in line with the calipers, is it possible the spec of the wheels has been changed? although maybe the weights are only 2.5mm or so so there is just enough clearance, I bought the wheels about three months ago

Interesting. I bought mine at about the same time. I've got quite clear "reminders" on my calipers showing their coming together. I don't believe I am the only person to have found this problem but it is probably not anyway near as common as them fitting right first time as I've not heard of many complaints.

Many thanks for all the responses.

On the subject of offsets, seems that an ET19 offset (as per the original 7J x 16") will work for the 7" rears. What offset works best with the 6" front wheels (not forgeting the 4 pot caliper clearance)?

Cheers

Just to close of this enquiry I am posting the following:

Copy of the response from AP Racing regarding the 4 pot caliper size -

"Generally we do have caliper profiles but the caliper we made for Caterham

at the time (1996/7) was unique to them and as far as I can see there is

nothing other than the machining drawings. The outer profile of the caliper

will be 156mm from the axle center line and overall width of 124.60mm. All

Cars used 13" wheels for both road and race our calipers were all designed

for 13" wheels. I don't know if the Caterham wheel was specific to them or

if it was a standard readily available wheel."

Caterham confirm that the standard offset for their KN 6"x13" wheels is ET24, giving a back space of 125mm.

Panasport wheels come in CLASSIC and ULTRA LIGHT - both fit over the 4 pot calipers.
