type 9 gearbox oil

I´m just about to get my gearbox filled up again with that precious liquid called oil but can´t get the original Ford-gearbox-oil anymore.

Road & Race transmissions recommends SHELL SPIRAX EP 80 as far as I know. Does anyone have experience with that or do you have any other recommendation ? Castrol maybe ?

I think that is Shell Spirax G80.

 

The important bit is not to get G90 .

 

Phil Stewart at Road and Race transmissions gave me the same advice for the six speed box and it is running well on it. He basically said that for boxes designed with the Ford synchros the best stuff was the Ford red oil that you can't get anymore. While you can pay loads for Redline MTL the Shell Spirax G80 does the same job for half the price. He was very specific that the box needed a light '80' oil.

Ratrace recommend either the original Ford oil or one by Kendall(I'd never heard of them before either) I tried Kendall and sure enough it improved the feel of the gearbox making it feel slicker with less synchro fight maybe this means the balk rings will last longer...here's hoping.

Might be a problem to get KENDALL or REDLINE over here in f...... Germany! Does anyone has experienced another mor common oil, like CASTROL or so ??? Thanks for the replies so far !

I think I've got a full bottle of Ford gearbox oil in the back of my garage. Where do you live - I'm in Macclesfield.

Er, about 300 miles away on the other side of the channel, one hour from Spa and the Nuerburgring.

Thanks for offering but I think shipping would be more expensive than buying a luxury oil over here. Thanks anyway !!

I run Castrol EP80 in mine - No probs yet.
