Remote Oil pressure sensor

I have just spoken to Darren and he tells me that the kit for placing the oil pressure sensor in better (less vulnerable, drier) location is no longer available.

I had been thinking about a mechanical version but in the 21:

- I want to keep the original gauge

- getting the pipe through the 21's bodywork would not be easy.

so was thinking shifting the sensor might be a satisfactory solution.

Hello!

I have move the sender to inside the engine bay in my car.

I bought the bits from the shop as per the list in the 7FAQ.

I'll see if I can find the invoice.

I had a look at a mechanical version, but the problem is that I could not find a matching gauge so I've given up.

Moved my original spec sender by useing fittings and made up a lengh of Aeroquip hose supplied by SBD to sit it on out of harms way.

This also stops engine viabration from wrecking the sender and keeps it clean.

Think Automotive would also be able to supply the parts.

GJT, this may be your lucky day.

I've just (and I maen just - today is "just") removed my remote switch, the union and pipe as well as the 10 bar gauge.

Do want me to post it or will you collect? *biggrin*

Norman

Now let me think...

Post would probablly be a better idea! Regretably I can not envisage a trip over to Noellet for a while.

Does this mean that you are fitting a mechanical gauge on the BDR? Remember I am putting this onto a K - it's not for the Crossflow. That has never given any problem on the O/P sensor front - so why are the K series sensors so poor? (rhetorical question)

I noticed you mentioned this on another thread, maybe I will have a look at Penn.

Yes, I've got an oil pressure and water temprature gauge from Mocul (but made by Smiths). They are white faced to match the tacho,

I'll do a better write up when i've solved the problem of burning one nylon pipe and breaking the other. The root problem is that the longer union means the pipe is touching the steering column. You've got to laugh.........

Email me your address and I'll pop it in the post.

Hi Norman

I do wish to keep the Caterham branded gauge, so don't send that.

(I have been tempted by Saxo Dazza to get glowing blue digital gauges from SPA, particularly to allow for several dual read-outs - such as coolant and oil temperature - but in the end I decided that it was too expensive and probably too much trouble at the moment *smile*) "Get thee behind me Saxo"

As for laughing, I suppose I have to do that after hurting my back breaking up lumps of concrete to repair the road here... (there was about 3 cubic yards of the stuff and at least 1 remains)

A small fact to add: I live next door to the site of the former Berkhamsted Union Workhouse. The Victorian era wall to the premises still stands and immediately on the other side of this wall was the Workhouse's Stone Breaking Yard. It amused my neighbour to point this out to me. *smile*

GJT, it is a Caterham gauge. It's the 10 bar unit as supplied with the dry sump kit. Looks same as all the other VDO gauges of the period.

If you want, I'll send you a photo, email me so I can return it.
