stuart147
Is it possible to get an invisible repair done on a stonechip on a Caterham windscreen as with normal cars? Mine is not quite in the sight line, but could possibly get larger. If it cannot be repaired ,does the frame have to be replaced, or can they just change the glass? Baz Hemsley
Yes had mine done. Not really invisable but stops it spreading. usually a no cost repair covered by insurance co.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Ditto for me on a heated Seven windscreen.
Anton
Stuart - depends on the shape and size of the chip. I've had four - two are virtually invisible, one is nasty and the fourth was too close to the frame for the repair kit to fit. Next one means a new screen! But luckily it's free with my insurance. Area Representative Paul Richards Posted April 17, 2009 Area Representative Share Posted April 17, 2009 Don't delay in getting it done. The longer you leave it (and dirtier it gets) the less likely it is to be invisible. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. JampJ
Halfords used to do a kit, not sure how good it is or if it's still available. Cheers John JFDI (Just F*****g Do It)
Stationary M25 Traveller
You can't beat a professional repair, especially as it is normally free if you have fully comp insurance.
stuart147
Thanks for the advice. Had it done this morning in the car park of Sainsburys of all places. And completely free.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Hurrah ! Autoglass or Glasweld (The latter do a better repair, but I can't use them on cars now covered by Highway Ins, as they are tied to Autoglass)
JampJ
That's really spooky, I was going to mention Sainsburys carpark, but they are not there on a regular basis. Nice one! Cheers John JFDI (Just F*****g Do It)
Rich N
It is also possible to just buy the glass.. but this would be without the heating element and therefore probably not going to pass an non-friendly (i.e. legal) MOT. --=[Oxford7s.net]=--
Roger Ford
Don't believe you need de-mist for an MOT, only for SVA. Certainly mines had three MOTs (one in a distinctly non-friendly place) without a heated screen.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Don't need a heated screen for an MOT.
Rich N
The caterham glass item is £83 here I realse the site is down now (see other thread to work around if you need to) but the site states: Part Number: 76050 Description: Windscreen Glass - Plain Additional notes: Race car use ONLY (MOT failure) What this fits: S3 --=[Oxford7s.net]=--
Stationary M25 Traveller
I can't see any reference to it looking in the MOT Testers Manual here ?
Rich N
One volunteer to email Darren and ask what the fail note is marked on it for? --=[Oxford7s.net]=--
tiddy1
I had a chip in my eye line so I just turned the screen around, so no it bugs the passenger Simon
Wrightpayne
Did anyone ever get an answer on the plain glass / MOT failure reasoning? Ian
