Changing Alternator Belts on a K with Apollo

Recommended Posts

This can be accomplished in approx 10 mins, and without the need to drop the oil, remove hoses etc.

1. Jack the car up

2. Remove bonnet / Nose cone

3. Snip any cable ties holding the oil hoses to the chassis

4. Loosen the bottom Alternator bolt (The one for adjustment on the rhs if you look from the front)

5. Losen the adjuster bolt on the side of the Alternator monting bracket

6. Remove jubilee clip holding the apollo tank in place.

7. Remove the 2 nut / bolts holding the header tank in place.

8. Slip the belt under the apollo tank, and up over the oil hoses.

9. Diconnect the breather at the top of the apollo tank, and slip the belt off, being careful not to allow and dust / gravel etc to fall into the small hole on the top of the tank.

10. Fit new belt in reverse order, ensuring all bolts, nuts etc are replaced and fully tightened. Make sure no one is in the immediate vicinity of the engine when you first start up just in case.

I will add an illustrated version of these instructions on my website over the next few days

Regards,

Martin

I'm glad you got it sorted. Although I haven't tried it I was sure the belt could be changed with the tank in situ. Next time don't forget the spare belt! Apart from the rain it was a good day & all credit to the organisers.
