stuart147
☹️ ☹️For the entire 18 months that I have owned my Caterham, I seem to have been dogged by various rattles. I have managed to sort most of them out, except one that is coming from the bonnet area on the off side. Has anyone resorted to putting a strip of sticky backed foam along the edge's of the bonnet to cure this type of problem? Does anyone have a better cure. I know some rattles are part of Caterham ownership, but this drives me mad. Please help!!!!!
Mr Locust
Foam along the full length of the top rails both sides i.e. where the side skin wraps over. Std K-series can also be prone to the throttle cable rapping against the underside of the bonnet. Ian Green and Silver Roadsport 😬
Stationary M25 Traveller
I have put foam strip (from CC) along the underside of the bonnet both sides - to stop grit getting between the bonnet and side skin. Also allows you to put bonnet down on to the foam. Good tip about throttle cable - I restrained mine with a loose cable tie so it can't tap under the bonnet. stuart147
How quick was that? Thanks for that. I have already cured the throttle cable rattle!!. Which is the foam strip from CC? Do you have a part number?
Stationary M25 Traveller
It's the one from the nosecone - that the front edge of the bonnet sits on.
Roger Ford
go to the parts page at CC and search for "foam strip". Three to choose from - you probably want the 12mm x 3mm one.
jamiegb
Another cause of rattles in that area which I recently found was the inner lip of the bonnet side edge (the small upstand closest to the engine which strengthens the bottom edge of the bonnet) was hitting my Bernard Scouse airbox - simple to fix with a little tweaking and a tap or two from a hammer to ease it away from the airbox. I use a small bit of gaffer tape to hold the throttle cable against the airbox and away from the bonnet Jamie
Normans_Ghost
GAFFER TAPE!!!! Don't you know that cable ties were made for 7's. Normans_Ghost
I've been thinking, which is always dangerous. How do you hear a rattle on a 7? Grubbster
I've got quite a rattle when idling from my radiator fan - it isn't rattling against something else, something internal to the fan I think ☹️
Normans_Ghost
What was that you said, Mick. Joking aside, when I got back from Calais last week it took 3 hours for my ears to stop buzzing. Trotsky
I used to hear a horrendous rattle when first pulling out of my garage, turned out to be the neighbours windows 😬 Trotsky N7 HPC
