grahambiddulph
Just got a set of Mintex 1144s front brake pads from Caterham. With them have come four self adhesive shim like things, these are exactly the same size as the friction material on the pad. What are these for. (where do they fit.) *confused*
Frying Pan
They're anti-squeal / anti-rattle devices. Fit them to the non-friction side (i.e. where the brake piston will contact them) -----See some pictures of the build here. 15000 miles completed! Area Representative Richard Price Posted March 28, 2009 Area Representative Share Posted March 28, 2009 Graham, I fitted new (1144) pads yesterday and have fitted them without either the metal or the sticky backed ones. I've done ninty miles today, and mine do not squeal, squeak or rattle. If you find that they squeal, you could always fit them at a latter date. Englishmaninwales
....and i can confirm Richard has used his brakes hard, judging by the blue colour of the front disks yesterday 😬 Graham, Ive also omitted both metal and sticky backed anti rattle inserts for several years now, and I do not get squeal or rattle. Rich N
I fitted both and mine did squeal slightly the other day 😬 --=[Oxford7s.net]=--
