Hi Guys,

Have a question, three in fact. I own a 1999 superlight 1600cc (EU2).

1. Come MOT time will my car (given the year) be required to pass an emissions test?

2. Does it actually require a cat?

3. If so should the car already be fitted with a cat?

Post R reg so I would suggest:

 

1 Yes

2 Yes

3 Yes unless someone has replaced it with a better exhaust (quite likely)

If it is amateur(owner) built then only a visible smoke test is required. If it is factory built then a full emissions test is required.

pretty certain that only applies to r reg or earlier regardless of the fact it is amateur built. Details in 7faq i think

I was always told that pre-august 1997 KIT built cars qualified for visible smoke only (and have a photocopy of a letter from some dvla cheese saying so) and you had to look for a "k" in the serial number to prove this.

 

I assume later cars, factory or kit, have to have emissions tests - but i dont own one!

Actually it's August 1998 that is the cut off date - i.e. when SVA came into force.
