caterhamnut
My apollo tank has developed a hairline crack along the weld of the bottom pipe on the main tank. Nothing is torn, so hoping it is just a case of getting it re-welded. Can anyohe here weld ali? I know its a bit awkward to do - I have a gas MIG welder - is it just a case of getting some ali wire for the feed? www.mycaterham.com here Videos here 102,000 miles car
k.russell
you will need argon gas, much better to TIG weld it, needs to be spotless clean so may need degreasing very well, ali doesnt like any form of impurity when welding and even the surface oxide needs to be sanded nice and clean. hope this helps Kevin R black(but sometimes orange)-ali HPC here
Paul Deslandes
Angus, if you can get the tank to Dorking, Tenon Engineering have an excellent TIG welding guy who I got to weld my Pace oil tank that had a hairline crack in it. Beautiful job and no more trouble. They also skimmed my large front disks for me a year or two ago. Tenon Engineering Ltd Vincents Walk,South St, Dorking, Surrey RH4 2HA Tel: 01306 885816 Otherwise I've used a small firm in Barrack Road in Guildford but I can't remember their name. They're next to a motor bike repair shop! They welded an extra pipe into my tank when I converted from carbs to injection. Edited to say that the motor bike shop next door is Gordon Farley Motorcycles Ltd 15, Barrack Rd, Guildford, Surrey GU2 9RU Tel: 01483 538485 so you could give them a ring and get them to tell you who lives next door!
