8v VX 1600, 1800+ options

Does anyone know if the 2.0 8v vauxhall lump from the 8v calibra/cavalier will drop straight into an 8v classic (my dad's old 2.0i Calibra engine looked identical to the 1600 lump in the classic). If so why has no one tried this - I've seen 1600 and a few 1800 8v VXs about but never a 2000cc?, and has anyone experimented leaving this engine on injection in the classic?

The reason that Caterham used these Vauxhall engines in any case, was that Vauxhall were about to dump them at sea as they no longer conformed to emissions regulations. From what I gather, they are not quite the same as the standard UK Vauxhall engine as some of the tuning parts for the 1600/1800 don't fit. However, if the engine mounts are the same, the only likely problem in moving between Family2 engines is the height of the block. I seem to remember that the 2l 16V engine had such an issue. Any ideas Arnie?
