Build me a virtual engine

OK, I’m currently (slowly) gathering all the parts needed to build a 200 BHP K-series …

 

Having done already a bit of research on what components to use … etc …

 

Two very important things regarding this : it needs to be a K-series & it needs to be bombproof.

 

Currently, my ideal spec would be :

 

- MS2 VHPD head with 285H cams, piper springs & steel caps, VHPD valves, DTH TB’s (45mm) …

- 1.8 K bottom end with standard crank, Omega forged piston, Farndon steel rods, Westwood liners, lightweight R500 flywheel …

- Emerald K3 ECU …

 

I guess this should be good for 200 BHP @ *thumbup*

Slider looks like a nice spec list, would have thought that an appolo would be good enough for normal track and road use, when my engine was built up this is how the spec ended up. VHPD headported and a big valve number done on it , 1444 cams, Goetze liners,set of omega pistons, TF160 bigend bearings, steel rods, verniers and an emerald, this lot runs with a wet sump and an appolo set up so far no problems, also with a standard crank. When it was run in and set up with Dave walker 247 hp and 167 lbft of torques 😬 tiz a bit quick i must say but might be a wee bit top end of the rev range for some 247hp at 8650 rpm *eek* what else is out there in the way of k series porn.

To get to 200bhp you'll probably need some porting to the head. I would give some consideration to a Scholar Evo block, either 1800 or, better still, 1900. This will ensure perfect liner standoff.

My engine is:

1900 Scholar block with Pistal forged pistons

VVC head (same valve sizes as MS2) converted to solid cams and fully ported by DVA

BP285H cams with Piper verniers

Jenvey DTHTBs (42mm I think) ports matched to the head

Caterham 4-2-1 exhaust

Emerald ECU

All that lot produces 226bhp @7800rpm

It will rev higher. I am running a standard crank and single tang rods.

Trophy 160 uprated big end bearings sounds like a good idea *thumbup*

Btw, I know that steel rods aren't necessary ... but in order to make it bombproof, I might just do it *wink* ... and this will leave me a margin for when I would want to go > 200 bhp ...after a while 😳

 

A Scholar conversion is something I'm still considering *wink*

Might as well go for 1900cc if I go this route.

But ... I've read about some horror stories on here regarding 1.9K's ... so not sure.

Ported head : maybe yes …

I used to run an 1800 200 BHP K then I did a Scholar 1900 conversion and a head change and now it's a Bomp Proof 240 Bhp Your doing all the right things And I'd agree with the Rods [i used Arrow] so that you can progress upwards

Car will be used both for road (60%) & track (40%) ... and will most likely be on CR500's or similar (no ACB10's or slicks). Am considering a DS, mainly for the extra piece of mind ... but then again ... it will add to the cost substantially.

 

 

A DKE crank ? Mmm ... must do some research regarding this.

Are they expensive ... any other uprated alternatives available for a standard crank ?
