Help to drill Petty Strut

Ivaan

Recommended Posts

Just been fitting the petty strut in the car, but I can't drill the strut itself because my drill chuck is too small to take the bit...( Black and Decker *rolleyes* ).

Anyone near me, willing and able to help? Drill bit is 7/16" or about 12mm dia.

Cheers, Clive

To answer your question:-

Petty strut comes in 2 pieces which slide into each other. This is because of the potential differences between chassis. You fit the strut and then drill through the 2 pieces and secure with a nut and bolt, to make the strut the exact length for your car.

Is this for the Caged bar? I bought a petty strut when I collected my car (the Oct 2003 kit for which seems to have had the first Caged 'X' FIA bar) post-SVA from Dartford in, and it's a single piece.

A single pece that doesn't fit *rolleyes* - the bolt hole at the bottom is 3-4mm outlof line of the chassis boss. I wondered whether they had stopped drilling this hole and let you do it now, but sounds like the whole design has changed.
