Will it melt?.............

Sealed my 4:1 exhaust collector with 250 deg C rated silocone sealantconfused.gif 'cos normal exhaust sealing paste just goes brittle and blows out. Tomorrow I'll see if it's worked.

If it does blow out try high temp silicon sealant. The stuff I've got is rated to 350 C

The stuff I've used is RTV Silicone made by 'Granville' and is rated to 250C. The chap in the shop said a bloke he sold some to uses it to seal the cylinder head to the block on an Aston he raceseek.gif Hmmmmconfused.gif

We used to use normal "Bathroom" Silicon sealant on the cylinder heads of 125cc watercooled race bikes, with no problems.

I doubt silcone will be up to the job as the exhaust gas temp can be up to 850°C at the collector. Cylinder heads dont go much over 150°C.

 

If anyone with a cat fitted to their car is contemplating using silicone sealant on the collector then DONT. The silcon will deposit over the catalyst substrate and kill it. Sorry. Its bad enough using exhaust sealant on it.

It didn't - melt that isthumbsup.gif. Smoked for a while though but once that had cleared seems to have done the trick.
