Booked in for my first ever ARDS

I've wanted to race for many years, and have made excuses for the last few, mostly to do with money. Well, I'm going to go for it next year, so have booked in for my ARDS course at Oulton Park on the 12th of December. <img class='"smiley"' alt='"cool' src='"images/smilies/cool.gif"' smiley"="" data-cke-saved-src=""> I've never driven Oulton before, so thought it would be a good way of getting to drive a new circuit to me, although in Clio 197s rather than the Seven. I'm planning to race my first season in the Castle Combe special GT series, knowing I will be hopelessly outpaced in my little 1.4, but figure the experience will do me some good?! It's a local circuit to me, and as I don't have a tow car or trailer it's not too far to get home should I have a mechanical or worse. Any tips on the ARDS? Tips....read the Blue book....learn the flags..that's about it!

The instructor will roughtly show you the lines before leaving you on your own for the couple of laps he assesses you in..

Don't drive at 100% or anywhere near it and you'll be fine! The exam really is simple!!

Medical - get that sorted..you need that before you go for your ARDS test..And get the form to the MSA pretty swiftly when you are able to apply for the 2009 license.

Did mine a few months ago and was really pleased at how easy it was. Yep, learn the flags and the rest of the written test is common sense.

I also agree with the tip of not over driving. You are trying to prove you are safe not the next Senna. Hit the apexes, braking points etc but don't try to prove that you can heal and toe like Moss.

Most of all have fun. Did mine at Silverstone and really enjoyed ragging the Exige around the circuit.

Good luck
