JACK FLASH
Would this paint method also be suitable to give the black inner panels a new coat while being in the car? My panels show some damage of more than 20 years use. Or are there better methods? Comments please? Jack Flash
skydragon
Ok, quick update after two years of hard usage. No bubbling or paint lifting, no more stone chips than you would expect from a 'normal' paint finish. The scuttle and cockpit sides had become scratched with my ham-fisted treatment of the car over the last few years...so i've just resprayed them, at a massive cost of approx £20 😬 they now look as good as new! It's great having a seven which you don't cry over every time you get a stonechip or scratch. Long live Rustoleum! Gridgway
I have the same question as JF regarding ally panels. Could you use the rustoleum method with those to give a satin or mat black finish? Graham
skydragon
You could, but you need to be aware that the resulting finish would not be even close to the toughness of a powder coated finish. Ie. If it's an area not being scuffed by feet etc, then it would probably be ok...but otherwise i wouldn't recommend
myothercarsa2cv
Great stuff, Skydragon! Still very tempted to give it a go Not like I've got anything better to do
AMMO
I did a bit of tidying up on my car using Rustoleum. The bits I did came out pretty good. I have five cans of Rustoleum clear laquer that was left over for sale if anyone is interested here
