Should there or should there not be a Dowty seal on the anti-cav tank drain plug?

Should I be able to remove the sump plug from the bottom of the apollo tank?

 

I tried at the weekend and could not shift it at all.

 

Do I need to speak to the fitting dealer about this?

Well, you should certainly be able to remove it, but take care not to bend/twist the rather soft ali. For sealing, I use PTFE tape.

Thought as much. Will speak to the fitting dealer in the morning. Could not shift the bugg3r. Tried with sump plug socket & Ratchet, then tried an impact driver - still no joy sad.gif

 

Oh well, at least the filter came off, and about another 1.5 - 1.75 litres of oil drained out of the system.

 

Will let you know the outcome

I use a Ford g/box drain plug washer (fibre) on this plug. Result:- No leaks and easy removal when required!

If you think about it, when you remove the filter (which is lower than the tank) most of the oil will drain, except what's below the lower hose (teacup?). Bearing in mind there'll be 6 litres plus going in, the final dilution will be 99.5% fresh oil; so why worry?

That was what I thought, but still I should be able to undo the drain plug.

Perhaps that final teacup below the lower hose is where all the crap, swarf, bits of metal, etc. lives. Stagnant pools of any fluid should be flushed out. Yes, I know it should all get picked up by the filter, but you never know.
