Le Mans: what is the engine in the MG

I find it slightly strange that given MG's dodgy financial situation that they would build a one-off engine, for one event. Regardless of the marketing benefits that might accrue , this sounds a very expensive way to do things, indeed bordering on the profligate. I wonder if perhaps they have other plans for it.

never mind fastest in class. The MG was fastest car on the track at one stage this year (about 2am it was catching the lead Audis) and last year (in the rain).

If it was reliable (big 'if' that one) and if they were as slick in the pits as Joest then an outright win would be at least feaseable.

I presume they have the same size restrictor as the LMP900 cars - they can have 4 litre turbos and only get about 600 bhp cf 500 for the 2 litre MG...

Pit work (on the number 26 Reid/Hughes/McGarrity car) was deliberately slow and methodical. They were looking to make up the time from better fuel mileage and being faster on the track. Trust me I know . There's also a bit more to it too, but I'm not telling!.gif
