In reality you cant easily swap pistons from one rod to another without compromising both the piston and the small end interference fit.

 

The ring swept area and traverse area are different on the 1800 so the liners wont be ideal either, you would be best off with a good matched set of 1800 rods, liners and pistons together with a good used crank.

keep with the 1.6 and either put TB on or get the head ported. Be careful or you will talk your self into spending lots of money with little affect. If I had a 1.6 i think i would just pop some Jenveys on and get it mapped. Why take the engine to part if all is fine? If the engine comes apart I am sure you will be told it needs this and that the liners might drop, if it done X miles this could be wrong ect.......
