Cost of CRB replacement ???

What would be the total cost (incl. parts, labour & VAT) for having the CRB replaced by Caterham Cars or a Se7en specialist (James Whiting, Redline, ...) ?

TIA *wavey*

No ... don't want to annoy them with such questions yet since it's only for a car that I'm considering to buy & that might need its CRB replaced in the future ... so still al lot of 'ifs' at this point and that's why I though I best called upon the wisdom of BC for this one *wink*

Since a CRB-failure is a common thing on a Se7en I expect somebody on here must be able to give me a quick answer 😬

Ill have a stab....

£10 for the CRB part. You need to remove the engine, but the gearbox and bellhousing can remain in situ. This entails undoing the two engine mounting points and the big bellhousing-engine bolts and lidting with a crane. Dump coolant out & oil if its dry sumped. Blah blah, following normal engine out proceedures as elsewhere on here. When its all apart, 10mins to channge the CRB & reassemble clutch arms.

Id have thought a decent 7 workshop/ specialist could do it in day. 8 hours at a rate for your part of country (£40 p/hour?). Approx £300 for the job?

Last time I changed mine, it took me about seven hours, and that included removing the engine/gearbox. I would guess that an engineering shop like CC or Whiting could do it in half the time -- so, around £200 perhaps?

And if the CRB mechanism is mechanical rather than hydraulic, make sure you attend to the pre-load requirements (lots of info on TechTalk).

From memory CC reckon 3.5 hours engine out and 3.5 hours engine in. Add in half an hour to split g'box from engine, replace CRB and mate the two back together and you have 7.5hrs labour. Add in some fluids and the CRB.

Don't know CC's labour rates but once you know that you can do the sums I'm sure. 😬

the job can be done without taking the engine out - have a look in the FAQ.

This saves a load of time because plenty of things don't need to be undone - all you need to do is get the block forwards about 3 inches so that the gearbox shaft clears the clutch splines, then you can smuggle the CRB out and swap it. Gynaecologists fingers are a help here..

Off the top of my head it probably took me half a day.

If you can get to Norwich I'm sure Grant Taylor (oldbutnotslow) would do it without pulling the engine out, and CC Midlands do it this way as well.
