Sealing dry sump

My SLR is leaking oil from the sump seal

Am I correct in that if I drop the sump it should then be resealed with a sealant as there is no CC gasket?

Archive threads are suggesting loctite 574 is there anything else recommended

574's the stuff

It only hardens on contact with air and so (unlike silicone sealant) there is no risk of particles entering and blocking oilways.

Would a 50ml tube be enough to re seal the sump?

Depends on how many times you want to do it

I use a wet sump gasket modified by cutting to the shape of the dry sump flange. Seems to work well and is leak free

Thats interesting, which parts of the of the standard gasket need trimming and did you have to make up a template?

Lay the sump on the kitchen table ( 😳) with the sump flange upwards and clamp/peg a wet sump gasket on top correctly lined up with bolt holes. Using a small tack hammer carefully tap out the shape of the sump flange on the gasket. Then remove the inner portions of the gasket with snips or heavy duty sissors (thegasket is a metal sandwich) and job done! Easier to do than describe!

 

Ive run mine like this for trouble /leak free 2 years, and no messing about with sealant, and the gasket is reuseable.
