inertia reels removal

Hi, I just fitted 4 pt harnesses to my 2005 roadsport, which was easy but took longer than expected. In my hurry to get the car ready, for the moment I left the inertia reels from the old std belts in place. Does anyone know if they come out easily please and how best to get at them? 😳 I had a quick look, and they seem well tucked away. Regards, Paul.

Remove triangular riveted panel in the rear wheel arch to access the inertia reels.

Undo two bolts and feed belt and fittings through slot in the back panel.

Rivet panel back in.

Easy - as long as you have enough rivets *redface*

If the car is painted then you will lose some paint when removing the covers. My inertia reel covers had been coated in sealant, riveted in place and then sprayed. The sealant around the edge of the covers had also been sprayed, so upon removal it took the paint with it! You could just cut the fittings off the inertia belt and let it retract the surplus belt back into the reel as that would save taking off the covers to remove the reel. I took mine off as both had a dent in them and I bought two new ones. I now have two non painted covers...
