Caterham tacho. Wavering needle

Std Caterham 0 to 8K tacho has started wavering all over th place intermitently. TBH I don't pay a lot of attention to the tacho but the wavering needle is in my peripheral vision.

Is it dead ? & if so how much is a new one. Anyone replaced theirs with something different 🤔

Dave.

Might be - though if i had a tenner for every time that has been suggested that it might be the problem...

...mine has fresh a clean earths and does the same. just replaced the gauge and it's stopped. Think the damping's died within the gauge. I've checked the cost of repair versus new one and it's 6 of one and half a dozen of another.

Check the earth, but if it's fine, i'd just buy a new gauge.

to be fair to Caerbont (sp?) and Caterham, mine has lasted 10 years and countless miles. It's ok under low variations in revs, but as soon as you press on or change gears at speed, it oscillates +-2000rpm in a damped "bounce" that WOULD eventually settle if I wasn't changing revs again so soon.
