Beelzebub
Std Caterham 0 to 8K tacho has started wavering all over th place intermitently. TBH I don't pay a lot of attention to the tacho but the wavering needle is in my peripheral vision. Is it dead ? & if so how much is a new one. Anyone replaced theirs with something different 🤔 Dave. sjmmarsh
Sounds like it may be a poor earth connection? Steve
henry21p
Might be - though if i had a tenner for every time that has been suggested that it might be the problem... ...mine has fresh a clean earths and does the same. just replaced the gauge and it's stopped. Think the damping's died within the gauge. I've checked the cost of repair versus new one and it's 6 of one and half a dozen of another. Check the earth, but if it's fine, i'd just buy a new gauge. Beelzebub
OK, thanks for that. I hate working under the dash 😔 I'll leave it until the winter 😬 Dave.
Rob Walker
TADTS and the speedo also. IMHO the instrements and senders that Caterham supply are such poor quality that they should have no place on a car costing £20-40K.
henry21p
to be fair to Caerbont (sp?) and Caterham, mine has lasted 10 years and countless miles. It's ok under low variations in revs, but as soon as you press on or change gears at speed, it oscillates +-2000rpm in a damped "bounce" that WOULD eventually settle if I wasn't changing revs again so soon. regroo
Anyone replaced theirs with something different I changed mine to a Stack. I have the old one CC kicking around if you want to test it against yours? Let me know.
Dickie Normuss
To be fair after 15 years and 60k miles all my gauges work just fine. The speedo over reads by about 10% at motorway speed but other than that they're rock steady VX HPC - Loud and proud here Watch out, whatever hits the fan will not be distributed evenly
Beelzebub
Dave21P That pretty much sums up what's happening to mine. Another job for the winter Dave.
