KayTee
Hello, everyone ! Are the alternators identical on the factory-supplied BDR and x-flow cars ? The mounting bracket for the BDR is extended towards the front by about 1". Which models were used on either of these engines ? I need one where the bottom fitting consists of two tabs instead of one solid long lug. Any pointers to manufacture and model number ? Which other models habe been tried successfully on BDx-es ? THANKS !! Bye - Karsten
R2D2
I use a Lucas LAR100 3-wire alternator on a Twin Cam with a 711M block and a standard pulley. It produces about 35A and seems fine. They cost about £25 and I didn't need an exchange. I intend to fit a 3 wire Nippon Denso in the next few weeks as they are much smaller. My local alternator supplier will get a 50A unit for about £60. I will need to make brackets and pulleys but it should be a good weight saving. Simos
I'll have a look at mine, not sure on the bracket but it was supplied as a BDR from new. My alternator is a late escort version, smaller than the original although not chosen for lightness (only one they had for that mount) and was £25 on exchange. Can't get answer till Monday though.
