Lagartija
Do Piper or Kent produce a profile equivalent to the Swindon 235 spec. cams? Is this a hydraulic profile, or must I faff with solid lifters?
EFA
Solid lifters only! Get them from Swindon. The profile is propietry to them, despite what Piper will tell you. They are very good cams, those in my car being a custom development thereof. Lagartija
Thanks... Don't like the idea of faffing with solid lifters; guess that'll be a no-goer then. Ho hum. sad.gif
Foxy Smith
To extend the query a little further, how far can you go beyond say Swindon 218 spec without having to change to solid camfollowers?
EFA
Once set up, solid lifters do not "go out". Stop being a big girl and go the whole hog. Solids are a piece of p*ss to set up. Ben Willis
I am very interested in the solid lifters (also considering the options!). Exactly what does setting up a cam with solid lifters entail? Are we talking 2 hours or 2 days. Either is fine if it really is a one off of course - how often do they need checking/ redoing? Ben
EFA
Ben, The first time you do them will take around 4 hours if you do a dummy build to check valve/piston clearances once you ahev set them up. In my car I have had only to reset two tappets in around 15,000 miles. Checking takes only a few minutes, perhaps each time you rebuild or overhaul the bottom end, or change the cam belt. Lagartija
Which do you go for? 1/ Insert for hydraulic lifter to make it solid ? or 2/ Pukka steel lifter to replace std hydraulic one ? Presumably 2/ is easier to adjust..?
EFA
Both are the same. Inserts are OK if you do not intend to exceed 8500rpm. Use titanium spring caps over 8000rpm though! Ben Willis
Arnie, Thanks for that - not so scared of them now. Ben
