oilyhands
There are two variations on the type '9'. both boxes have s smooth (non ribbed) steel casing and a detachable bellhousing, the gearbox tail and remote control are aluminium and the gear lever flange is a three bolt fixing, they have an 'H' pattern gate with reverse to the left and up and 5th to the right and up. The type 'N', used on 4 cylinder variants,indentified/ characterised by an input shaft length of 6.9 inches from gearbox flange to tip of shaft, ratios 1 3.65:1 2 1.97:1 3 1.37:1 4 1:1 5 0.82:1 The type '9' used on 6 cylinder variants (V6 etc) and favoured by Caterham because it has slightly closer ratios, this type normally needs a 1 inch spacer between the bellhousing and engine or gearbox and bellhousing as it has a longer input shaft. Identified / characterised by an inout shaft length of 8.1 inches.. ratios.. 1 3.36:1 2 1.81:1 3 1.26:1 4 1:1 5 0.82:1 There are many after market variants of these boxes including Quaiffe and BGH, but the basic boxes are as shown.
