stevefoster
Has anyone had a belt failure on the Caterham dry sump VX set up? I know many are running this and they have been raced for ages. I have heard of some K series belts coming off... Do any of you have sensors on the belt or oil level warning switches in the oil tank to alert you in time? captain chaos
It went on me on a trip to the ring. I was stranded on the motorway near Brussels. Had to come back by truck. I always carry a spare now (cost £2.48 I think) Anyway, my car does have a low pressure warning light mounted above the oil pressure guage but no sensors on the belt. Alex Wong1697456877
They do ping off but very rarely. An oil pressure light is essential. Mine came off when the alternator belt broke during a sprint start and the remains of it pinged the dry sump belt off. The oil light definitely saved my engine. stevefoster
Captain, Would the pressure warning light have given you enough time to save the engine at the Ring though? It is admittely the same warning you would get if the internal oil pump gave up I suppose. With a belt sensor or oil level sensor in the oil tank you would get more warning. I saw a Zetec at Lydden that had lost it's alt belt that took the dry sump pump belt out and it trailed oil all round the track before he stopped. Perhaps no oil press light?
