Current rating for engine loom power feed?

Following my little conflagration on the IoM I need to replace the 30 Amp cooker wire I used as a temporary fix. (It's not very flexible and I suspect it will fatigue over time.)

What is the current rating required for the 2 brown coloured wires that are the main power feeds into the engine loom? (K series)

Halfords sell 27amp rated wire which I have bought but, given that the ECU fuse is now a 30 Amp, should I use something with a higher rating?

If so, where can I get higher rated wire suitable for automotive use?

Thanks,

Shaun

Google for 'Vehicle Wiring Products Ltd' Shaun. They offer a good range of wiring products including cables, switches, lights, relays, fuse blocks etc, etc. I've used them a few times and prices and service are very good. *thumbup*

Alternatively if you are going to Stoneleigh in a couple of weeks, there are usually stands with all this type of stuff on.

What happened to you on the IoM by the way?

Cheers Brent - will take a look. It'll probably wait until Stoneleigh though.

My IoM story about half way down. Just a small electrical fire caused by poor routing of wires *redface*.

If you still have some of the original wire count the number of strands and measure the diameter of a strand, you can then order cable of the same type as originally installed, ie 65/0.30mm, = 35amp cable, with a total cross sectional area of 4.5mm.

Thanks folks.

Ordered all the necessary stuff from VWP and Andrew Jenkins kindly bought some proper cable to Goodwood for me as well.
