pie_boy69
I have been thinking about looking into sump gaurds for K series cars as the sump hangs so low had to very bad experiences. Does anyone make anything like this yet? Price and availability? If not my idea was a 10mm thick contoured plastic cant think of the material name but it's waxy and high density but not brittle. I have spoken to a couple of people and an injection mould would be plus 5grand unless someone knows someone? But what would be your reaction, how much if at all would other people be willing to spend. Let me know your thoughts and see if we can get something going on this. Andrew Russell
We have had a similar thread of discussion previously. There are difficulties in that to fit a useful sump guard it would have to be about 3/4inch below the level of the sump, in order to proect that precious item. This would reduce ground clearance to an even lesser level, and if your sump is as low as mine, the guard would be virtually on the floor permanently! Mounting the guard would also cause problems. Any shock received by the guard would be transmitted to the mountings which would presumeably be on the chassis rails. Damage would be caused to these fragile members. It is quite amazing just how much damage can be transmitted by a thump to a sump guard...I speak from bitter experience from rallying days...various bent chassis on Escorts, Minis and Imps bear testimony!! Another aspect to consider is cooling. My XE engined seven has a finned sump to assist in oil cooling and to blank of the air flow would be detrimental to say the least. Sorry but I don't really think that sump guards are an option on a Seven....bigger wheels, raised suspension or dry sump...yes..or just avoid the big bumps. It's a small price to pay given the pleasure the cars deliver everywhere else!! Andrew
old captain slow
Any ideas re a simple way to raise the ride height? It doesn't need to be much. About half an inch should do it as my 7 with the HPC wheels and 205/45 tyres on doesn't hit the deck whereas with the 13" wheels and 185/60 tyres it does. Difference between the two is about 1 inch ie not much. Adjustable platforms are too expensive for my budget this year. Simple snd cheap would be good therefore. ken wiseman
I believe the material you are referring to is nylon or delrin. George Ramey, a 7 owner here in Seattle has a piece ty-wrapped/bolted on to protect his sump. Dartmoor7
Use 185/70x13 tyres to give same diameter as 205/45x16 ?
old captain slow
Unfortunately 185/70 also gives the same ie higher gearing than the 185/60's
