Got the car out for a blat today Switched off immobiliser switched on ignition, pressed red button and it span up,fired and died instantly. Did this five or six times, same result. Gave it a bit of throttle and tried again it fired up and died first time started second time and went out on 30 mile run, no problems.

Am going to France in 3 weeks and don't want to experience this while away. Anyone got any idea what might have been the cause.

car is an 1800 k series superlight verniers timed by Dave Andrews running NGKBCPR7ES plugs.....Standard head.

Might just need a bit of use Robin but it sounds as though all is OK other than it wont idle when cold. Could be a sticky IACV (mine used to do it from time to time) just take it off and clean it with some carb cleaner to see if it solves it.

What was wrong with a pair of webbers eh 😬

Hi Adrian

Used the car last weekend with no problems and was surprised to experience this today. even with throttle held slightly open the engine still cut out initialy.

Plugs are recent replacements for original rover jobies.

Still a bit of a Luddite at heart, can't get used to these sensor thingys *confused*

Give me a clue then, where do i find an IACV.

At least I could turn a screw or twist a distributor on the old Xflow *smile*

Immobiliser playing up? If it happens again try resetting the immobiliser. 4 or five presses of either button on the fob.

Assume Adrian's YHM has given you details of IACV location.

Mine does this occasionally

If you have a big red key just switch the whole lot off and back on and it runs fine

No idea why but it has been doing this for years

Autotesting in Scotland tires provided by Skip motorsport services

(Well we pull them out of skips)
