alextangent
Anyone got any recommendations for a reliable firm that won't cost the earth? Leaded to unleaded conversion, probably requires new valves, valve guides etc. Doesn't need to be local to Edinburgh. These guys have been suggested; in Falkirk. Anyone know them? Dave B
I had my steel crossflow built by Scholar and they did a fantastic job of the head which was supposed to be race spec already but the ports needed opening out significantly. Highly recommend them. They are in Suffolk on the A140. Dave B
alextangent
Thanks for the suggestions. Just spoke with Eric at Jem; seems a decent guy, and he's been straight about not wanting to do any more xflow rebuilds, but that he'll take on smaller jobs like this. If the valves etc need replaced, he'd prefer that i ordered parts from Burton and sent them to him, which isn't the most straightforward of routes, but might save a markup. Used to do a lot of them, but now he just does Pintos. I'll have a chat with the other two and make a decision. ta Alex McDonald PASSED THE MOT!!! STEVE GILBERT
I'd recommend Coltec Racing engines (formerly Holbay) in Grundisburgh (Ipswich) We had a mild Crossflow head fettled plus boring grinding etc, it came in less than predicted cost and made good horsepower on the rollers. Thumbs up from us Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
