catastrada
I recently bought race wing stays, and new wings. Today I replace the previous wing stays with the race wing stays. Then I positionned the wings properly. I had to "build" a kind of spacer on the "back braket" to avoid the tyre to touch the wing (I did not stick the wing at this stage). Then I tried to remove the wheel with the wing in position and there begin my problem... I cannot! If I need to create a spacer for the "front braket" to clear space, then I don't nedd to replace my previous "non race" wing stays... I add that my front wheels are the 6x13 CC 8 spokes, with 048 185/60/13. Did I miss something? Archie Procter
sounds very strange, I run race stays with exactly the same wheels and tyres and have no problems, just have less clearance than with the standard wingstays which is the idea... Is it the same both sides? I wonder whether you might have been supplied with a bent stay???
catastrada
I did not try both sides... I bought used wing stays on the BC. Edited by - Catastrada on 15 Mar 2008 17:13:
Andy Best
As they are secondhand I would check that they have not been shortened. The normal race stays are fine for the wheels and tyres you have. Andy
Archie Procter
I agree, if they are not bent it sounds like someone may have modified them for use with lower profile tyres. Check to see if the other side is the same, that should tell you if it's bent or they've both been modified
philwaters
Indeed - I'm running the race stays with R888 in 13x185x60 combo and have no issue, and I used to run 032's in the same size with no problems. Sounds like they've been cut down for use with slicks. Phil Waters
catastrada
Thank you for your answers. I will try to sell them to someone using slicks.
Wrightpayne
Catastrada, Are you sure you've fitted it on the correct side? Sorry if this is an insult to your technical capabilities though it has been done before. Before you revert back it maybe worthwile comparing them side by side with some known to fit OK. catastrada
I don't understand your input as an insult, no problem And yes I'm sure I fitted them in the right side.
catastrada
I did some measurement to have clear ideas. The measure is between the axle of the wheel to the upper braket of the wing stays. Standard wing stays : around 34cm Race wing stays : around 32cm The wing stays I bough : around 30cm I ordered race wing stays to CC and those "very" low profile wing stays are now in the for sale section
