jstride
OK, so my apologies for reposting this, I can't find my original post. I can't start my Caterham at the moment, I have a 2003 Academy and after turning off the immobiliser the red light (3rd along on the rev counter, not the immobiliser light) stays on and the engine won't turn over (it did before I went away on holiday, it just wouldn't start). I know that before somebody suggested this could be a duff alternator(I did fit a new battery a month or so back) so I have a feeling that I could be having my first 'under' the bonnet session sorting this out. If this is the case, where I am I best to start/get parts/etc! Thanks Jake
MarchHare2008
Do you get a click from the starter motor? Might be worth putting it in gear and rocking it back and forwards in case the starter motor is jamming on the fly wheel. The immobiliser works on the fuel pump so it would still turn over even if immobilised. I do know that mine immobilises the fuel pump even if I have "mobilised" it with the key fob if the battery is too low. Should still turn over though. GTD
See Neil's post on the similar thread or at the moment! Do you hear the fuel pump whir initially? Have you tried jump starting it Did you leave the electric cut off (noting it's an ex racer) off or on? I always leave mine off to stop any current drainage... CharlesElliott
As GTD said - fuel pump whir? click from MFRU? Does the battery have sufficient power? The red charging light will always be on until the engine starts at which point the voltage from the alternator turns it off. Stationary M25 Traveller
If you fitted the battery recently, double check all the connections to it. Is it the right way round 😳 ? Are the liquid levels ok in it ? Maybe it was supplied dry for your to fill up ? 7 related photos
jstride
The battery was fine, I drove it after I fitted!
mark4newman
Hi Mine wouldn't start recently, fuel pump made its noise, immobiliser went off. I found a wire, that appeared lose but being a "numpty" I couldn't work out were it went. In the end I called the RAC, they came round in 40 mins and found where it went, and we had a great chat about cars and bikes. Anyway, I now know where the white wire on the near side goes. jstride
OK I tried again this morning after rocking it back and forward and this time it wouldn't even turn over but made a loud clicking and the battery light flashed in time with the clicking. Any more ideas? Thanks Jake
Stationary M25 Traveller
Sounds like a very flat battery ?? Clicking is solenoid or starter motor engaging, but not having enough oomph to turn engine. Check state of battery and recheck connections are correct and tight. 7 related photos
jstride
OK I will do. If that is the case it seems like I have another problem since it is a brand new battery (less than a month old).
Stationary M25 Traveller
If not connected to a conditioner, any battery could easily run flat in a month, just by running the immobiliser ! So, not necessarily a warranty claim from Mr Angry of Coventry (yet). 7 related photos Edited by - Stationary M25 Traveller on 14 Mar 2008 13:30:
jstride
OK so the battery was fine, a quick tap of the starter motor started it OK!
