Gearbox + diff oil

allegro

Recommended Posts

OK. I have a 6 speed Caterham box and LSD on a Superlight R.

What oil should I use in the gearbox and diff question.gif

Can it be the same oil question.gif

And what ever you suggest is it commonly found in my local Halfords question.gif

Thanks

EP80 for the gearbox, fully synth is not recommended (loads in the archive on this) and a LSD oil such as Shell Hypoid(90?) or similar. Morris Oils are based in my area and they produce an oil specific for the ford type of LSD which I then checked with phil S for suitability and it was ok.

You will not find the LSD oil at Halfords, I got it from a good local Motor factors. The Castrol EP80 was on the shelf.

Very good Steve teeth.gif

Bucket of fuses on their way.

Thanks to the chap who donated a fuse on Saturday, sorry I did not get your name, but I was a bit pre-occupied with panic.

I have just had a poke around my gearbox and diff and cannot find the oil level plugs. Can anybody give me a pointer where they might be and how do I get to them.

Thanks

The oil level plug in the box is a bugger to get to. It's on the right hand side (facing forward) about half way up. Last year I fitted a tube to the top cover so I can fill just by taking the tunnel cover off. The drain plug is bottom left.

The diff I have has a plug at the back on the right hand side.

I filled the diff via a tube from the boot (quickly took the floor out) I thought it was easier than lying under the car and squeezing it up the tube!
