Stationary M25 Traveller
... or not Seems the grip of the rust between the rod end and the wishbone tube was stronger than the forged (?) shank of the old rod end.I guess they all do that ? So now it's time for a new top wishbone !! I shall certainly smother the new one in CopaSlip before fitting it. As there is still some thread protruding , maybe I can get the old bit out after a decent soak in Plusgas ? 7 related photos
CageyH
I would let it soak in plusgas. if that does not work, try shocking it.... Then try heat.... If you are going down the new wishbone route, you may as well. Another option, would be to weld a bar on the threaded part, and try again... Only dead fish go with the flow....! Stationary M25 Traveller
I thought I would try using 'Footprints' to grip the exposed thread, then, if that fails, weld a long bar on it. Heat (apart from hot air gun) was going to be the last resort, as it would mean re-coating the whole thing ! 7 related photos Edited by - Stationary M25 Traveller on 24 Feb 2008 12:00:
Fishy Dave
I had the same problem removing mine a couple of week back. In the end it took plusgas, heat and an adjustable spanner on the flatter section near the ball joint to get it to move!
Stationary M25 Traveller
Perhaps we should buy CC a big tub of Copaslip with our compliments ? 7 related photos
Englishmaninwales
Perhaps we should buy CC a big tub of Copaslip with our compliments ? Or maybe the person who first built the car 🤔 FWIW my car was a 1994 factory assembled car and I was the first person to dissasemble the car when it was 9 years old. Everything had been assembled with coppaslip. Maybe if you'd thought about it first, and used the plusgas or such like. The front suspension is pretty exposed to water/salt ingress and general road crud. Rather than being quick to blame CC, who may not have built the car? simonbell
NI build team motto....... Don't let it near the car unless it is covered in coppaslip. Unfortunately one of our less experienced build team members used coppa slip on his alternator pulley bolt.......needless to say he has now been educated in the ways of loctite 😬 Simon Bell - Caterham 7 Duratec R I`ve seen the future.....and it`s powered by duratec Check out the website here
Stationary M25 Traveller
a) Did use lots of PlusGas b) It was a CC factory built car, hence my suggestion ! 7 related photos Edited by - Stationary M25 Traveller on 24 Feb 2008 15:45:

Stationary M25 Traveller
Got a new one today. My how freely the rod end spins in the thread !! Coated the inside of the tube liberally with Waxoyl before screwing the rod end in. CC seemed to think the thread was so fine that Copaslip might not do much ? All installed and car back on the ground again. Phew. 7 related photos Edited by - Stationary M25 Traveller on 25 Feb 2008 23:03:
Grubbster
IIRC from when I built mine, the rod was already in the wishbone and I never took it apart to add coppaslip. Hope I don't need to take it apart then I guess 😔 It's only taken four and a half years - I have started my website at last! Early days yet . . . shn7
Been here before and ended up bending the wishbone whilst it was held in a bench vice and I tried to turn the rod end. New wishbone time ☹️. Steve. Sussex (West) AR Not forgetting Percy the Polar Bear
Stationary M25 Traveller
That is precisely what happened after 24 hours of continuous PlusGas application, then welding a bar across the protruding stud - welder tried to unscrew it before I could stop him !! . Hence the new one fitted last night ! 7 related photos
