Phil
Why do we not use the Ford CVH engine for 7's is it the size or reliability?
Blatman
'Cos compared with what C******m's mostly use (1.6Vx 8 valve excluded), it's a crap engine.............
STEVE GILBERT
Not tuneable without forced induction, not that it is a bad engine per se IMHO. 15 years ago when I was 17 I had one in my XR3i, with lots of mods inc Avonbar sg2 head, Kent cam, Janspeed etc etc and it withstood MEGA ABUSE and I mean MEGA! Graham Perry
It was a reliable engine if properly maintained (my brothers XR3 did 240,000 without a spanner ever touching the internals) but ultimately it couldn't be tuned as heavily as its predesessor the cross-flow. Phil
Is the CVH engine new or based upon a OHC block?
STEVE GILBERT
No not based on anything else, but hardly new, given it was designed in the 70s
Julian Thompson
I honestly think the answer, as well as weight and the lack of valves (!) is that it is just horribly mechanically thrashy - they always sound awful! In fact, Caterham once tried it as a development car for a while but came to the conclusion that it just didn't suit the "pure driving machine" image and job - description!
