servicing?

Red SLR

Recommended Posts

Right it is Sunday morning, I am sat in the house whilst you lot will be out enjoying the open roads in your 7's...

As some of you may have gathered I have not much (actually no) knowledge of 7's. Thus - how much is a service? Where can you get one done? What is the interval? I have been told by Caterham that when I get my 7 I will have to take it to Liverpool after 500 miles for its first service.(live in Manchester) There after it will be upto me to get this done.

What is the deal? Ta, Simon.

Well I had the same problem when I bought my Seven, living in the Paris area! I use the Caterham "owner book" and do what they say. It worked pretty well although I am in no way Mr Good Wrench, and my English is weak. So, hold on and use your tool box. In fact I informed the French importer that there is some bafle foam in the sump and that if you do not change it every

10 000km , then you may have a problem...

Depending on how much work you want to do yourself there are several other good books (although I agree that the 'Owners Manual' is a very good place to start).

Tony Weales restoring a lotus and Caterham Seven (or some similar title) is the closest to a Haynes manual for a Seven.

The depending on the engine:

Haynes manual for a Ford Escort Mk2 (xflow and 4speed gearbox)

Any rover K series haynes manual (if appropriate)

Otherwise, look in Low Flying for a specialist near you.

Good luck

Jules,

I'll second that frustration. You get a lovely little R500 owners wallet with not much to put in it. I think I'll take mine to meetings in the hope that someone might get distracted and we can get talking about cars !

I've had my copy several years, but from the Se7ens list FAQ:

Weale, Tony Lotus Seven. London: Osprey, 1991, 1995.

Well-respected technical book. Contains much information for people building or stripping their car.

Amazon are not quoting it at the moment so it may be out of print. There may be copies available at the festival at the weekend.

Cheers,

Graham
