magister
Thanks Mark Does this mean that my bog standard Michelin 185/70R13 MXT tyres, which I assume were supplied with the car, would not be allowed? ☹️ PaulB
Mark Durrant
I think the MXT is branded as a Pilot so should be OK. What is the full name on the tyre and if it is not listed I can check with a scruitineer. Mark D Comp Sec
magister
Mark Tyre has Michelin 185/70R13 MXT Traction A Temperature B but not much else! PaulB
GregP
That sounds like the standard issue control tyre for the scholarship/ academy before caterham switched to the Avon CR322 in 2000.
Mark Durrant
Paul I will check with a scruitineer but it may take a couple of days. How old are the tyres? Mark D Comp Sec
magister
Mark I assume they came with the car (10K miles), built 1998 thanks PaulB
Mark Durrant
Paul If there 10 years old I suspect that is the reason why they are no longer listed. I will check with a scruitineer and report back. Mark D Comp Sec

Mark Durrant
Yoko 21's are a list 1b tyre which will put you in class 3 if you have class 1 levels of power Mark D Comp Sec

Area Representative Richard Price Posted March 18, 2008 Area Representative Share Posted March 18, 2008 Steve, Whilst the Michelin MXT's are no longer listed in list 1A, I don't think anyone is likely to protest you and have you thrown out of class one. Mark Durrant
Tyres have a definite lifetime even when not used - I think 5 years is the max before the rubber hardens etc etc. Hence this is why they are no longer eligible for motorsport. If the tyres are not in the Blue Book you will fail scruitineering. I suspect the tyres on your car may be the originals and the thought of putting 10 year old tyres under extreme stresses on a track fills me with horror! Motorsport is one area were there is an assumption that you are using current or nearly new products for essential items such as tyres. I would also look to change them if they were to be used purely on the road as the stopping distances will have increased as the rubber has hardened. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news and if you want any advice as to a suitable replacement please get in touch. Mark D Comp Sec

Tommo22
Hi I've just recently bought my 7 and am interested in getting involved in some competitive events. Could you please let me know which class my car fits in: 1.6 K-Series Roadsport Caterham 6spd Gearbox 4 into 1 exhaust - all above were specced at time of build. anything else I need to state? Also - how do I go about getting the MSA Non-Race National B Competition Licence? Thanks Tom
robmar
I think - it will be either class 2 or 3 dependent on tyres, what do you have? either class is an ideal place to start sprinting with big classes and close friendly competition where abouts are you? forgot to add http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentChapterView.asp?chapter=269&rand=59185 for getting a license if you plan to start this year i would get my skates on as there are not many events left and they may be full already....also competing this year would neagte you from the novice championship (if you have nevere previously held a competiton license) next year... Tommo22
Hi Rob - thanks for your reply. The car came with Pirelli P6000 Road tyres but will prob look to get something stickier! Never raced anything but Autotests before so maybe the Novice championship would be a good idea? Was thinking more of next year to be honest as want to get some airfield / trackdays in first!
