New Cat
I have removed the remains of one of my rear wings and have found all 3 rivnuts have pulled out and made the skin holes a little bigger. Reading old threads it seems maybe rawnuts may be the best replacement? Please can you advise me as to what to order assuming I can get the holes back to little bigger than standard size and where to get them from (speedy delivery would be very helpful). Grubbster
I ordered some yesterday 5mm, but if you needed to I assume you could go a little bigger to fill the holes better? It's only taken four and a half years - I have started my website at last! Early days yet . . .
Phil G
Numpty question. How are they applied? Phil SummerLightningHaze
Grubbster
I think they just push through the hole and as you tighten up the bolt the rubber squashes widthways and compresses. At least I hope that is how they work. It's only taken four and a half years - I have started my website at last! Early days yet . . .
Phil G
Ah! I see - A bit like a more gentle rivnut without the need for a gun. Sounds good. SummerLightningHaze
New Cat
Thanks guys, I've ordered some rawlnuts from Eliseparts and some M5 screws, nuts and washers from modelfixings.com (seem very competitive). I did this after reading a few horror stories about the damage that can be done when rawlnuts rip out - hopefully the nylon bolts will break first! Has anyone successfully used rawlnuts with nylon bolts? Jon
Area Representative Richard Price Posted February 11, 2008 Area Representative Share Posted February 11, 2008 Has anyone successfully used rawlnuts with nylon bolts? This may also help here I've pulled wings off a couple of times, and been able to re use the rawlnuts, after a little dressing of the side skin. New Cat
Thanks Richard, I'd already printed myself a copy of that diagram. What is meant by "dressing" of the wing? Do you use nylon bolts with your rawlnuts?
Mick Day
What is meant by "dressing" of the wing?I would assume hiting it with a bloody big hammer..............................................................but as it's aluminium you only need to hit it gently! Area Representative Richard Price Posted February 11, 2008 Area Representative Share Posted February 11, 2008 What is meant by "dressing" of the wing? I have used a round file to open out the holes where the original rivnuts have pulled out. If the side skins are distorted where the rivnuts have pulled out, then I'd gently push (not hammer) the skin back into shape with the ball of a ball pein hammer, then file to size. Do you use nylon bolts with your rawlnuts? Yes, I use Nylon screws.
