I.Mupferit
My car is a 2005 model year SV and I believe I need an uprated fuel pump for my new 2.3 Duratec which will be producing rather more power than the old 235 bhp jobby. I can't get through to the CC stores at the moment to ask the question so what pump am I likely to need? Is it the JPE/VHPD pump that fits internally in the tank? There seem to be a few pumps shown in the online shop and I'm not too sure which is the direct replacement for my present one. F355GTS
Brent, its the R500 you'll need, btw it only comes as the pump not the whole housing so you need to use your existing outer bit and mount Mark
I.Mupferit
Cheers Mark, I put 'R500 fuel pump' in the search facility but the only uprated pump I could see was the JPE/VHPD component. Would they be one and the same do you think? Brent (aka Arfur Nayo) 2.3 DURATEC SV Reassuringly Expensive R 417.39 😬
philwaters
I think they are one and the same - they are from the Rover 220 Tomcat IIRC. Got one in my car for future proof reasons you understand Phil Waters
I.Mupferit
Unless you are thinking of trying to get more than 225 bhp from the Zetec Phil, I suggest you might as well swap your pump with mine. Seems a shame to waste it otherwise. Brent (aka Arfur Nayo) 2.3 DURATEC SV Reassuringly Expensive R 417.39 😬

Ian R
I see SBD are getting 304BHP from a 2.0ltr Duratec now, I think you've been diddled!! Ian (C4T VX) (If you want to go faster, you will have to add lightness!)

dannylt
Just found this thread - I want a new fuel pump. Brent - you can have >300 from yours too, you just need to pay Ammo a bit more money! Mine is 312bhp currently, but I'm starting to think the pump is marginal...
I.Mupferit
Unfortunately, Mrs C found out how much I gave Ammo the last time so I'm unlikely to get away with that again whilst keeping the wedding tackle intact! You've no idea what it cost me in terms of 2 new bathrooms, a lounge makeover and more shoes than Imelda Marcos! ☹️
millsn
I might tbe interested in a good 2nd hand pump. I'm only ever going to 250 max, what do they go for?
dannylt
Aren't they only £70ish new? I wouldn't bother with a second hand one given how annoying it is to replace!
millsn
What the uprated ones?
I.Mupferit
As Danny says, they aren't expensive so personally I would go with a new R500 (Rover Tomcat) pump.
rgrigsby
Yes even the uprated ones are about £70+vat Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
ELV15
FYI, I saw this on the Hartley site and thought it might be a less expensive upgrade than switching to an R500 pump: http://www.h1v8.com/albums/album_image/1821906/1355660.htm ELV15 - Tom in California - 200hp duratec powered 2003 Clubsport Build pics here: here

Bob Simon
255LPH Walbro F20000169 pump will fit the Caterham plastic pump basket with a little boring. About $110 USD. Not sure where to find one in the UK. (it's a common v8 Chevrolet application.) If you swap pumps, I'd recommend binning the pulse damper widget between the pump and the tank flange and replacing it with a proper bit of fuel line and a couple of jubilee clamps. Pulse dampers tend to leak before the pump has reached it's service life. -Bob 94 HPC VX Evo III
dannylt
Hi - thanks for that. Some Walbro pumps are rebranded at Sytek and sold by a few motorsport suppliers in the UK - am currently looking into it.
Anthony
Danny, from recollection the Sytec pumps can be obtained fromn FSI, and fit the standard Rover pump holder that fits in the tank. For high output engines I am advised the R500 pump is marginal - fine for 250 bhp. Last thing you want is the engine running lean on a track as fuel is not getting pumped fast enough. FSI have a nice pump which delivers 5 bar and suitable for up to 400 bhp - used a lot in tuned scoobies.
dannylt
Yeah, it was the FSI website I was looking at, but Merlin Motorsport seem to stock the same part. I put a fuel pressure sensor in years ago, and the first 300bhp engine would only cause problems on really sustained full throttle, i.e. the long uphill straight at Spa.
