Neal H
Hi, I have a Superlight R300 which has the Caterham trackday roll bar fitted. I *think* it is this one https://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=179_181&products_id=3358&osCsid=cd20115bd4e5b49c61fbb76ede5f4676 It doesn't have a petty strut - is this suitable for the Seven Club championship? Thanks, Neal.
martin b
Neal That would be fine, petty strut is not a requirement Just make sure you have sufficient head clearance, the top of your helmet should be 2" below the top of the rollbar as a guide. Mark Durrant
Neal As Martin B says the roll over protection you have is fine. Look out for the Speed Championship Entry form in February's Lowflying plus an Introduction to Sprinting Day at Curborough on Saturday 22 March which is free and will tell you everything you need to know to enter. Hope to see you in the paddock soon and if this is your first try at Motorsport you will also qualify for the novices championship. Neal H
Thanks for the info I was looking at getting the timing strut that Caterham sell on their website. Does anyone have this? If so, how do you fix it as it doesn't seem to come with any fixing kit. I am rubbish at making stuff like this, so prefer to buy an existing one Thanks! Neal. Mark Durrant
Neal If you have a 7 grill or mesh to protect the rad you can easily fix the timing strut to the car using cable ties. Mark D Comp Sec
Simon.Rogers1
Is the Caterham one to the correct "new" length?
Matthew Willoughby
I checked the one that I just got from Caterham against the dimensions in this year's Blue Book and it seemed fine. In fact, I think it was slightly longer than required. I'll check again when I get home this evening.
Graham Perry
Not got my blue book yet, what is the new rule ?
Mark Durrant
Graham This is taken from the Blue book that covers sprints and hillclimbs: General 67. Timing Struts – Where timing is activated by a light beam, the vehicles will be fitted at the front with a vertical timing strut, minimum vertical height 254mm, the bottom of which shall be not less than 180mm and no more than 200mm from the ground. The strut will be in matt black on both sides, over its total area, which shall be not less than 254mm by 51mm. No other, or further forward, part of the vehicle may interrupt these dimensions or actuate the timing. Basically the timing strut is now bigger Mark D Comp Sec
Matthew Willoughby
The one I got from Caterham about a fortnight ago measures 280mm by 53mm. So yes, the one Caterham are selling is big enough.

Area Representative Richard Price Posted February 5, 2008 Area Representative Share Posted February 5, 2008 I made myself a new strut last year I made it to exactly the old dimmensions 🙆🏻 ☹️ 😔 🙆🏻 I guess I'll make another one ❗
Englishmaninwales
I suppose you will be losing sleep over the extra weight of your new strut, Richard. Talking of weight, how's the diet going? You may be pleased to know I've lost loads When's the weigh in?
Mark Durrant
I hear on the grapevine that the weight is falling off the Comp Sec , so much so that Simon will be looking for some cheap finance in April
Simon.Rogers1
Ski-ing is rather good for you don't you know. Lost a couple of pounds even with all the eating and drinking. But the best thing is anti-biotics. Had to take some recently that very importantly excluded alcohol for the 5 days course and 3 days after. I stood on the scales after the 8 days 🥰 🥰 🥰 The words six pack came to mind. I really needed a drink 😬 I lost 10 lb. I wasn't ill as such it was a tooth thing. So stay off the booze prior to the weigh in I have however returned to the bottle
