Support Team c7trp Posted January 27, 2008 Support Team Share Posted January 27, 2008 Reverse is getting increasingly hard to select on my standard 5 speed type 9 'box. The force required to push the knob down 😳 to allow reverse to be selected requires both hands. The action is smooth, and the gear engages fine. It feels like the spring is too strong. Am I a wimp, or is something more sinister going wrong?
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted January 27, 2008 Area Representative Share Posted January 27, 2008 Tim Sounds like somethings a bit dry and needs lubricating. I suggest removal of gearstick to take a look. First remove gear knob and remove leather cover from transmission tunnel. To do this you need to pull handbrake until it is in vertical position which will mean slackening off handbrake cable - there are 2 nylon knurled nuts on the cable located above diff on nearside of car. Once tunnel is off there are 3 small bolts holding gear lever in. Good luck Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. Support Team c7trp Posted January 27, 2008 Author Support Team Share Posted January 27, 2008 Thanks Paul  How does the leather top come off the tunnel? I've had a brief rummage with it today, but couldn't find the fixings... Not much info in the build manual either. Cheers
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted January 28, 2008 Area Representative Share Posted January 28, 2008 Tim No fastenings on the leather tunnel top, just an interference fit, try some brute force, although it could be worth checking that there aren't any (non standard) self tappers. You do need to put the handbrake vertical to slide it up. Â Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S.
