Charlie XGO
Does anyone know where I can buy or obtain a 3/8 inch cut down Allen Key for the Gear Box oil fill? Thank you in advance
CageyH
Most tool shops will do a hex bit for a socket set like these. Only dead fish go with the flow....!

Area Representative Richard Price Posted January 13, 2008 Area Representative Share Posted January 13, 2008 As David W says, cut one off with an angle grinder, but it's 10mm, not 3/8"
Charlie XGO
Thank you... my hacksaw was a non starter! Now I need to find Bob, with an angle grinder! No where to buy/obtain one already cut to the small size? Appreciate the help on such a small (but necessary!!) item.
Guy Lowe
I cut a small piece (15mm) off of the end of a 10mm AK with a hack saw and then glued it into the filler plug with Araldite. Now I just use a 10mm ratchet combination spanner to remove it 😶🌫️ Guy SB Lowe o *arrowup*o How to fit a ZETEC in one easy lesson here

Wrightpayne
If you do cut one down remember to keep dipping it in water as you cut it - if it gets too hot it can affect the hardening. Ian
Peter T
Which if it does is less than the bolt it is trying to undue. The gearbox plug is only normal steel. 😬

andy_h
Drill a hole in the passenger footwell (blank when not in use with rubber grommet) and pass an extension bar through Works fine on mine, but I don't have carpets etc 😬 White road legal 2.0 HPC VX race car 😬
I.Mupferit
I had a tool made up at work which is a piece of mild steel flat bar, about 400 long with a short piece of a 10mm Allen key welded to the end. *idea*If I were to have a batch made up, who would be interested in buying one? I haven't worked out a price but they wouldn't be terribly expensive. I will gauge possible interest first and then work out a price. 7 wonders of the world
or use an M6 x 22 machine screw with 2 plains nuts run up and locked together in line used in conjunction with a 10mm ratchet ring spanner Works a treat Too young to be old ! Guy Lowe
Using a 10mm ratchet ring spanner on a bolt/hex is soooooooo easy, I should know my gearbox leaks like a sieve so I have to check the oil every 500 miles Guy SB Lowe o *arrowup*o How to fit a ZETEC in one easy lesson here
BBL
As David W says, cut one off with an angle grinder, but it's 10mm, not 3/8" The old manual says it is a 10mm, but Section 2 Page 4 of the new manual says it is a 3/8". Seems odd that with the switch to the metric chassis, this has become Imperial! - Sean
millsn
I have a square drive plug that fills the hole. Box is from sPC, I presume they are available from there. You just push in an appropriate driver, think mine is 1/2"

sjmmarsh
... and if you find it hard to shift once you have made the key, try heating the gearbox up by sticking a fan heater under it for 15mins or so. Worked wonders for me! Steve
