jackb_ms
Hi What would be the place place to fit an oil temp sender to a dry sump VVC? I was thinking to fit on the pipe coming from the top of the engine and going back to the tank. Would that be correct? jackb_ms
Well having a long conversation with racetech it lloks like I won't be able to use the auge I have as the probe works with gas ☹️ 😔And I cannot find a pratical place to fit it. 😔 Jack Emily, The Very Yellow
K200CSR
I had an VVC with an anti-cav tank, not the full dry sump, and the oil/water temp sensor; they were the same, screwed into a boss at the bottom of the tank. Does the swirl pot have a similar boss?
Kevsta
Depends what tank you have. I believe the best place is the sump tank as that would be the place the oil went from and into the engine (after any cooling you may have).
jackb_ms
I have the bell housing tank, which makes it close to impossible to fit inside Jack Emily, The Very Yellow
Kevsta
In which case I'd put it in the line from the tank to the engine. I'd also call Think and ask them what they have (you also get a L7C discount with them)

Support Team Shaun_E Posted January 11, 2008 Support Team Share Posted January 11, 2008 The standard Caterham bellhousing tank is tapped for the temperature sender. Is there something about the 21 chassis that prevents you fitting it there? Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
Kevsta
Just a thought and might not be an up to the second temp but what about the additional pressure tap on the oil filter housing?
jackb_ms
The problem with my car is that it is one of the first dry sumped VVC . I'll check the oil filter housing this weekend to see if I could fit there. Jack Emily, The Very Yellow
Kevsta
Yes I have seen your car (remember you let me try my VVC ECU on your car when I had a problem), I have a spare filter housing if you need one to play with. On the filter housing there are two outputs. On on the top and one underneath. You probably have the top one for you pressure sender but this leaves the lower one free. Just watch out for clearance under the car as you don't want an oil way hanging low below the chassis etc. Other option is to have a splitter on the pressure sender side. I have a brake hose (I think it was from a peugeot) that I used for my sender previously that you are welcome too but it might be too long. It has the right thread on for the housing but not sure about the sender for the temp. When I got mine I just went to motor parts direct and they let me go through all of their flexible brake hoses and I went with the housing etc until I found one with the correct threads. Not an easy way but it didn't take too long. Regards Kev
