Martin S.
For a bit of added safety I’m thinking of fitting one in the fuel pump supply. Has anyone had any issues with them tripping when they shouldn’t? Class 4 Zetec ....and suffering withdrawal symptons
simonbell
Standard fitment, usually on the bulkhead in the engine bay. Simon Bell - Caterham 7 Duratec R I`ve seen the future.....and it`s powered by duratec Check out the website here
Support Team Shaun_E Posted January 2, 2008 Support Team Share Posted January 2, 2008 Martin - ask Simon Rogers. His tripped on the curb at Pembrey resulting in a NTR for the day. A number of people actually bypass them for competition. NB this is the standard K series inertia switch. Davey Bee
I've had issues with mine tripping without real cause. However many years ago I had a mate that was very badly burned in a TR6 that he crashed. No inertia switch, so the injection system kept feeding the fire with fuel. I remember that he got £40,000 for his injuries, this was at a time (1974) that claims pay-outs were relatively small, an "E' type V12 cost £3400 and you could buy a semi-detached for around £5000 in the midlands. So you can imagine the extent of his burns. I will re-site mine in the cockpit, so that when I have a problem I can simply reset it. Sorry to be so graphic, but I hope it helps. rj
I've fitted mine - with Dual Lock - in the cockpit. It serves two purposes: The usual safety issue - and as an immobiliser. I remove it and bring it with me when I leave the car. /regin
CharlesElliott
I have one in my race car (in the cockpit). But just to put the other side, racers do have they trip going over curbs sometimes, and this has been actually known to *cause* accidents as the car following closely behind piles into them. CageyH
Rik, You need a 7 that works to merit having an inertia switch (Any news on the 7?) Only dead fish go with the flow....!
Simon.Rogers1
Now bypassed It pretty much came close to loosing me the class win overall for the year. 😔 Apart from Andy G that is And it definately saved Mark Durrant some real embarressment. h_____
Great for a road car Put in cockpit for track car Remove for race car As Charles said, I've had a couple scary moments tripping it on curbs in races, enough for me to disconnect.
CharlesElliott
They do seem to vary in their sensitivity. Mine has never tripped (except when I've hit something hard or rolled it ) and so I'm happy to have it. Chris DNFd at Snett when it cut out after a fairly minor run over the curbs. Alex Wong1697456877
I took mine out and wired it across a big red switch in the car marked fuel pump. The bypass sounds a good idea though. Edited by - Alex Wong on 4 Jan 2008 15:27:
