Paul Deslandes
French Hillclimb Championship Opens Up to UK Drivers The Championat de France de la Montagne (CFM) headed by Jean-Paul Calmus is proposing a new category for non-French nationals in 2008. Regarded by many as the best hillclimb series in Europe the CFM is held entirely on closed public roads with course lengths of up to 10km and bien sur that unique French welcome and ambience. ‘Le Challenge Open’ will consist of seven events and will run along side the CFM, drivers will be able to choose which out of the thirteen CFM rounds they wish to enter. Caterham owners are welcome to register however in France only FIA homlogated cars can run in Groupe GT de serie, the only Caterham homologated is the 1600 K series de dion chassis (FIA No 015). Cars must be standard with the following modification allowed; LSD, final drive ratio reduced up to 20%, ECU is free, tyres free, wide track, dampers make free, brake pad material free. Full cage (straight bars), 3" harness and 2 kg hand held extinguisher obligatory. Competitors will need to hold an MSA Nat A licence, classes will follow the CFM structure and cars will need to comply with FFSA technical regulations.
