82 OX
I need new tyres for my old crossflow. My car is used for 12 months per year in any weather. The tyres for road use only - what is recommended?
Drumster
If you are using 13" wheels go to George Polley and get Yokohama A021Rs in 185/70/13 profile. Excellent all year round tyre (they're actually a wet motorsport tyre) and only £40 inc VAT per corner I've used thers as my road tyres for many years and around 20,000 miles and had no problems Chris Alston C7CAT 1800 Supersprint R248.89 ....and then I jumped in

Willie.
Or you could try Toyo T1-R I run my car year round and wore them for a while...now wearing R888s in all weathers (No problems) Willie
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted December 23, 2007 Area Representative Share Posted December 23, 2007 Definitely AO21r's for all round road use but I have got the Toyo's on the Elise and they are excellent too.

82 OX
thanks for the advice it seems that yoko AO21R is the favorite. I have been offered Good year GT2 tyres from a local dealer, has anyone any experience of these?
h_____
another for yokos, CR500s are great, but do the math, are they worth the extra?
6speedmanual
I prefer to stay with CR500 They are lighter - less overall mass, less unsprung mass and less rotational mass and they are the correct sizes All the Superlight suspension and damper settings were developed with these tyres that were designed specifically for the job. There are various threads debating cost and grip/handling in wet/dry warm/cold of different tyre option. I find the CR500 a great allrounder but it does work best in warmer ambients than we have at this time of year (Brrrr). 6SpeedManual *tongue*There's no such thing as too much BHP per Ton 😬
MartinWoodham
Yes I'd agree that you need some tyres. The car just won't go quite as well without them! Do a search on tyres and you'll find as many opinions as there are combinations of four alphanumeric digits and the words 'toyo' 'yoko' 'michelin' 'bridgestone' 'avon' Seriously, if you're feeling flush go for avon CR500s, if money is tighter go for Yoko 21s/ 32s. Some also swear by toyo T1s, I've never used the latter but have run toyo proxes on a couple of road cars and been astonished by the combination of good wet & dry grip, low price and good wear rate. rgrigsby
Definetly steer clear of the Goodyears, they will be hopeless on a seven. Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
Chaz23
I run Yoko A539 on mine (195/50/15). No real problems whatever the weather. Opposite Lock, what is the handling like with R888's on wet roads? As I might go for some next time I change tyres.
susser
539s are pretty hard compared to AO21Rs though. 13" 21s are a good bit cheaper than 14" jobs. George Polley always does a good price on 21s and has 13" ones by the truckload.
rgrigsby
21R's would be the be an easy and good choice, 60 or 70 profile depending on how worried you are about ground clearance/what tyres you currently have. Sheds Moderator
I have heard good reports for Yoko 021s. My experience of 032s is they are great in the dry. In cold damp conditions, watch out. I have used Bridgestone RE720 but I understand they are discontinued. Angus swears by Yoko 032 and 048 with appropriate care in the cold. He's done 100k miles over about 8 years in all weathers, so i think he knows what he's taking about.
