Alastair Smart
I have a 1.6K Series Caterham, which has not been starting properly. When I push the starter button it just 'clicks'. However, if you push the car in gear it will then fire up. I recently had the starter motor changed. Still no luck. The specification of the car, if it helps, includes the fact that it is race prepared, has throttle bodies, a programmable ECU, six speed box and vecta alarm. Any suggestions are very welcome as I am pissed off with pushing the car. Even thought it is light.
rj
Try to disconnect the "thin" wire from the starter, and then with another wire connect the now free point at the starter to live + from the battery, if you still get the click, even the new starter is out of order. On the other hand, if the engine turns, then you have some kind of bad connection, and I'd start by suspecting the ign switch (or bushbutton). /regin
Jason Plato
It could be the regular failier of the solder on the solenoid connections . Remove the solenoid and check the terminals for free play and minor vibration cracks across the solder . re solder and all could be fixed . dave
