So, we start from a silent shed and a small tenor voice starts:

Once it was that Colin’s garage
Was an empty stable block
There he built some little sports cars
Working all around the clock
Each one was a little sports car
They were driven near and far.

and everyone then joins in:-

He went on from Hornsey to Hethel
His race cars held us in thrall
Drivers used the private test-track
And Jim Clark was best of all
Driving fast and never slowly
Committed to the corner wholly.

It came upon a midnight clear
That glorious blat of old,
From Churchstanton up on the hills
All through the night of cold
Drive round the bends, then on past Chard
And keeping up good time
Avoid the towns and crest the hills
Then meet us all in Lyme.

here endeth the second carol

An ever popular carol is third

Oh little town of Caterham
How still we see thee lie
Then through thy deep but disturbed sleep
The little cars drive by
And through thy dark streets shineth
The glare of headlights bright
The girls and boys have hopes and joys
For the meet is here tonight
For the Club are out together
And gathered in the mist
While mortals sleep, the drivers keep
Their early evening tryst
We catch the scent of petrol
As great warm engines sing
So join with us, and drive with us
And blat the next morning.

Here endeth the third carol

Hark the aged Crossflows sing
“Twin Webers are just the thing!”
Big exhausts and lots of noise
Sticky tyres to please the boys.
Joyful let the Sevens roar!
Press those pedals to the floor!
Other engines get no rest
“The Kent Crossflow is the best!”

Hark the herald Crossflows sing
“Twin Webers are just the thing!”

here endeth the fourth carol

The choir have the next carol to themselves

On tour in a Seven
No room in the boot
The bright-eyed keen driver
Puts down his right foot

The stars are above him
And the moon casts some light
The bright-eyed keen driver
Drives on through the night.

The engine is purring
The oil must be warm
The bright-eyed keen driver
Is focused and calm

We love you little Seven
‘cos you keep us ahead
(and) the bright eyed keen driver
Is now heading for bed

Here endeth the sixth carol

We end with a traditional finale

Oh come all ye Vauxhalls
VX and XEs
Oh come ye, oh come ye, to Caterham
Come here and tune them
With twin carbs or injection
Oh come and let us port it
Oh come and let us port it
Oh come and let us port it
Forgéd heads

Oh, sing choirs of engines
Loud in unison
Sing all ye neighbours,
“Far-ar too loud!”.
Give praise to Swindon, experts of the highest
Oh come and let us port it
Oh come and let us port it
Oh come and let us port it
Forgéd heads

here endeth the seventh and final carol

Jenny
If you can make me half as rich as JK Rowling, then yes please!
But glad you enjoyed them. Two of the sets of lyrics just kumped into my head last year (at a carol service) - the less good ones needed thought and don't work quite as well.

If you can make me half as rich as JK Rowling

Rumour has it that Harry Potter and his mate ditch the Ford Anglia but retain the true grit of Ford power and re-appear in a Cross Flow Caterham in the next film

So well done GJT *thumbup* 😬 *wavey*

less inspired this year:-

While drivers washed their cars one day
Up to their knees in suds
The pressure washer hose came off
And water splashed in floods

“Oh dear” he said, for mighty force
Had drenched the car’s exhaust
“The bad news is that rain is due
Followed by a hard frost”

“To you in London Town this night
It will freeze down
So don’t drive out tomorrow morn
As you will slide around.”

All glory be to sticky tyres
And balance of the car
Good grip henceforth ‘twixt road and car
So go out and drive afar

Secular this year...

You better look left
You better look right
You better go blat,
Contain your delight
Colin Chapman’s coming to town,

He’s making a list,
he’s checkin’ the lot
He’s gonna find out who’s fast and who’s not
Colin Chapman’s coming to town,

He knows if you are speeding,
He knows if you are not
He knows if you have spun the car,
So keep it straight and in the slot.

The boys and girls on race tracks
will have some brand new tyres
they’re gonna be revved-up to the max
all around the county shires.

You better look left
You better look right
You better go blat,
Contain your delight
Colin Chapman’s coming to town,
Colin Chapman’s coming
Colin Chapman’s coming
He's coming to town

Democratic dissent is not disloyalty, it is a positive civic duty.

Not the road to hell.. We want Heaven:

I see a turning wheel

On a dusty track

Caught in the void and empty space

In between there and back

And the paradise of going somewhere

That's still so far away

Happy, boy you bet I am

Holding on to this smile for just as long as I can

Heaven

It's all bright in front

And it's all dark behind

Living for the now that's in between the bridges

and the signs

And getting there is still a long long way to go

While the others dream a wish

This is everything I officially need to know

Happy, boy you bet I am

Holding on to this smile for just as long as I can

heaven
